5 Best Moisturizers for Thick and Coarse Hair

Written by Linda Green of checkcorner.com

It can be frustrating to have coarse and dry hair.

It becomes even more annoying if your hair is so thick because it makes the dryness way more obvious!

You got frizz here and there. Split ends. Hair that looks like it’s fighting to free itself from your ponytail.

It’s just, plain terrible.

The Solution

Moisture is the key to taming thick, dry hair that maybe damaged from over using hair straightener products.

Most of the time, a hair product with a lot of butter or oil does the trick.

The oils give and lock in moisture for the hair. Over time, your hair becomes shiny and gets a nice amount of volume.

Luckily, we now have hair moisturizers. These can produce the results your hair needs. But…

So many options!

I didn’t know there were so many types of moisturizers out there. The number of choices in my local store alone is mind-blowing!

However, although they’re essentially the same product, they work in different ways.

That means they produce different results on different people. What works for others may not work at all for you, and vice versa.

Select the best hair moisturizer

Since there are so many options to choose from, I figured it would take me too long to try them out one by one.

So I grabbed 5 of them.

I know that no sane person would have 5 different hair moisturizers in their bathroom at once.

But I felt that this was the quickest way I could find the ideal hair moisturizer for me!

Let’s Get Right To It!

First up, we have…

Oyin Handmade Honey Wash

It’s a little more expensive than the average hair moisturizer you can find at the local store, but here’s why:

The Good

Honey is a popular moisturizing ingredient in beauty products.

You can find it in many natural or organic anti-aging serums and creams, just to name a couple.

But what else is in this product? It has aloe vera, jojoba oil, and walnut seed oil. Finally, it’s sulfate-free, which means we have one less harmful substance to worry about!

The Bad

However, honey is insanely difficult and costly to harvest.

Anyway, you will find that Oyin Handmade Honey Wash is very much worth your cash because it is not only a hair moisturizer.

It is actually a head-to-toe cleanser that functions as a shampoo, conditioner, moisturizer, and toner for your hair and skin.

It’s the ultimate fantasy of the environmentally conscious.

African Pride Shea Butter Miracle Silky Hair Moisturizer

At the other end of the price spectrum, we find this nice and very effective hair moisturizer.

The Good

It is nice because it’s cheap, but at the same time it does moisturize and tame dry hair.

In fact, it’s so effective, it’s recommended for girls with kinky natural or treated hair!

The best part of it is that it manages to do all that without that oily, heavy feel that many conditioners and moisturizers leave on your hair.

This is so lightweight, the only difference you will really see is that your hair is much prettier and shinier than before!

The Bad

The only problem is that its moisturizing effect doesn’t last very long. If they came out with a more expensive version of this with longer-lasting moisture, I’d definitely go for it.

Creme of Nature 100% Pure Argan Oil

There’s a reason A-list celebrities mention argan oil products when they’re asked about their beauty secrets.

The Good

This is an all-natural product that’s great news if you’re sensitive to common hair product chemicals.

Also, this is a multi-purpose treatment that works for the skin, scalp, and hair!

The Bad

It smells good enough when it’s newly applied, but it has a weird smelling base scent.

Lastly, it is, unfortunately, a little expensive. A 1 oz bottle will cost you about the same as a normal sized moisturizer bottle.

Carol’s Daughter Black Vanilla Hair Smoothie

This smoothie is specially formulated for “dry, dull, and brittle hair,” according to Carol’s Daughter.

The Good

I love how it’s so easy to apply and rinse. It also quickly detangles the hair.

It is filled with a lot of ingredients full of vitamin E. There is olive oil, sweet almond oil, and the beauty favorite, sunflower seed oil.

The Bad

The price is just a little high. For the price of an 8 oz bottle of this, you can buy two or three cheap products that produce the same results when combined!

Alikay Naturals Moisture-Rich Hair Parfait

Finally, we have this moisturizer from Alikay, which is quickly becoming popular.

The Good

I love how it is also all-natural and organic. It feels like all the oils and other sources of moisture in it are applied to your hair in their purest form because they’re organic.

It’s even used by women with kinky hair!

The Bad

It can be a little greasy, though, so apply moderately.
