A Busy Girl’s Fashion Guide

This is a guest post by Claire Hastings.

As a girl who goes to college, works and also tries her best to have a great social life, I simply don’t have enough time to commit to my first love, which is fashion.

We have some troubles in our relationship because of that of course but, you know, we try to stay positive. Jokes aside, even though my time is very limited, I’m doing my best to play with fashion as much as I can.

I refuse to stay inside of the boundaries and I always try to be as creative as I can. That is how I invented some of the major rules on how to always look like a million bucks even though I’ve spent just 15 minutes getting ready.

And of course, as a nice person as I am, I’m going to share my little secrets with you.

Stick To The Basics

This is probably the best advice I can give you. People sometimes underestimate the power of basic items. Here are some must haves for every fashionable gal out there.

White Shirts

There is nothing much to say here really; there is nothing better for matching than plain white shirts because they go with literally everything and you need to have at least one.

Pencil Skirts

They are simply the greatest. First of all, they hug your curves so they look good on everyone, and second, they are very trendy and popular. You can find them in all shapes and sizes, from sequined ones to basic cotton ones. I personally have 10 of them.

Little Black Dress + Playsuit

You already know that the saying: every girl should have that perfect little black dress is true. My version of this is: why not five?

Trust me, you have no idea what a blessing it is to know that you always have a backup plan if you can’t figure out what to wear. The more shapes and materials you have, the more choices you will have.

When it comes to shape, your body dictates which ones you will wear. If your body shape is pear or apple, opt for an empire waist or an A-line LBD.

If it’s rectangular, choose the ones which are belted to emphasize your waist. Strapless ones are for triangle shaped bodies and the lucky hourglasses can wear any type which distinguishes their curves.

When it comes to fabrics, there are many different ones, and the key is to know which fabric is for which occasion. First, I need to say that lace dresses are suitable for any occasion and season.

Cotton, chiffon, and satin are perfect for warm months, and wool, polyester and velvet ones are for colder months. And for special days, when you want to be comfy, yet stylish, be smart and go for one of those timeless playsuits, and you just can not make a fashion mistake.

Ah denim, hello the nineties! Of course, there are a lot more shapes and sizes now than there were back in the nineties, which tells us that denim really is for everyone. Skinny jeans,

Of course, there are a lot more shapes and sizes now than there were back in the nineties, which tells us that denim really is for everyone.

Skinny jeans, boyfriend jeans, trouser cuts, straight legs, boot cuts, wide legs, and let’s not forget about fabulous denim jackets.

Your options are limitless, but there is one very important rule here that mustn’t in any circumstances be broken: never, and I really mean NEVER wear denim from head to toe!

Go Edgy

The era of ripped jeans, spilled paint patterns, zippers on random places brings us the opportunities to experiment and be brave. Don’t be afraid to be bolder.

If your head doesn’t like hats (by that I mean that they don’t look good on you), skip this one. If it does, then you are one lucky girl.

They add that special note of Paris streets to any outfit. Combine them with layered outfits, faux fur jackets, coats etc. If you don’t like the idea of wearing a hat, opt for beanies. It’s getting cold anyway, you need to protect your head.

Black Jeans

Having at least 3 of these is a must. Just like LBD, they always come in handy to save the day (or the outfit).

They can be edgy when you pair them with some edgy items, like combat boots and leather jacket, but also very cute if you add some basic or floral items. The choice is yours.

Comfy, simple and warm. These can be used as accessories when you tie them around your waist, or you can wear them buttoned up and tucked in your jeans for example.

You can even throw them over a simple white t-shirt just to add some color to your outfit.

Leather Jacket

You can’t call yourself edgy if you don’t have this. Biker ones or cute simple ones – the choice is yours.

But my personal advice is to opt for those biker ones with many zippers and asymmetric collars – they are just way more pretty and sometimes a girl just needs that edgy touch in her outfit.

Good Accessories Are A Key To Success

An outfit is never complete without the right accessories. Nothing can change the whole impression like them.

It really does make the difference. My personal favorites are multiple rings, knuckle rings, wrap bracelets, and chokers. Try them out.

If there is one thing I know, it is that the right pair of sunglasses can make you look like a true fashionista. Lennon’s, aviators, cat-eyed, as long as they fit your face shape, everything is fabulous.

All in all, now you see that for a good look you don’t need to spend a fortune. You just need to make smart choices.

I hope this helped you. If you have some more tips and tricks, feel free to share them in the comments.

Stay trendy, xoxo.
