Take Good Care of Your Skin By: Amy of The Makeup Case
The week I turned 16 the #1 song in the country was “Turtle Power” by Partners In Kryme from the original Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie.
At 16 my love affair with makeup was really just starting.
Back in those days, brands like Urban Decay, Too Faced, Tarte and Smashbox didn’t even exist yet.
There weren’t even Sephora stores in America yet! If you wanted high-end makeup, you had to go to the spendy department stores (if there were any in your area).
If you wanted high-end makeup you had to resort to the department stores.
But I’m getting off track here…What would I tell my 16-year-old self about beauty?
A few things actually:
Take Good Care of Your Skin
It never hurts to start a good skincare routine early. If you’re good to your skin, your skin will be good to you. Don’t forget to take your makeup off every night before going to bed.
It’ll keep the nasty breakouts away.
There really are no rules when it comes to beauty and makeup.
- Want to wear dark, vampy nail polish all the time? Do it!
- Want to do a smoky eye for a daytime look? Do it!
You’ll never know what works and what doesn’t until you try it and find out for yourself.
Blend Your Makeup Properly
Remember to blend your foundation over your jawline, and down your neck if necessary.
Blend until your arm feels like it’s going to fall off. Blend, blend, blend!
Don’t Worry What Others Think
That kind of goes without saying but I am saying it anyway. Going all cliché here but…
Haters gonna hate. You be you.
Makeup should be something you enjoy doing not a “chore” you dread.
These days one of my favorite parts of the day is doing my makeup in the morning. It’s when I can focus on me and see what magic I can create.
If I knew at 16 what I know now about makeup and beauty… well… who knows?
Again don’t forget to enter for a chance to win an Illumalift brightener.
